Infection control guidelines

Hospitals and health care facilities are highly sensitive areas and implement good infection control practices to avoid nosocomial or hospital acquired infections (HAI). An infection rate of 5% to 10% exists in the western world according to the International Society for Infectious Diseases (http://www.isid.org/). Surveys of hospital infection control departments are required by the CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and organism targeted testing may be indicated. All services listed below also apply to communities with immune-compromised individuals, such as retirement homes, rehabilitation centers, in home health care settings for seniors or cancer patients.
