Indoor Air Quality Milestones
Starting from very humble beginnings back in 1986, ET&T has progressed over the years to become one of the most reputable and well-known indoor environmental consulting companies in Southern California. See below for our most notable milestones.
2011
- ET&T starts and completes a moisture and mold survey of 300 guest rooms and public areas at high end hotel apartment located in Palm Springs, California. ET&T provides a detailed remediation plan for the contractor for remedial action.
- ET&T starts moisture and mold investigation project at a newly constructed 180 unit apartment building in San Diego, California.
- Peter Sierck and Felix Neumann become licensed Mold Assessor in the State of Florida.
- Peter Sierck renews his California Registered Environmental Assessor license.
- Peter Sierck joins the Consensus Body of the International Environmental Standards Organization (IESO).
2010
- ET&T is retained to evaluate a number of major hospital facilities to assess the indoor air quality, investigate for moisture intrusions and mold issues and provide remediation strategies and work specification for the contractors.
- ET&T establishes a new division, named EMF & RF Solutions, to address the increasing demand for measurements, assessments and mitigations strategies for Electromagnetic fields (EMF) and radio frequency (RF) emission. We created a dedicated website to address the EMF and RF issues at www.EMFRF.com.
- Peter Sierck is retained and teaches the first applied microbial remediation technician (AMRT) class in Melbourne, Australia.
- Peter Sierck gives two presentations at the 13th Annual Indoor Air Quality (IAQA) Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2009
- Peter Sierck is elected to the Board of Directors for the International Environmental Standards Organization (IESO).
- ET&T staffs part of the board of directors of the San Diego IAQA Chapter and starts organizing educational events for the indoor air quality industry.
- Peter Sierck gives two presentations at the 12th Annual Indoor Air Quality (IAQA) Conference in Ft. Worth Texas. The presentations are entitled Lumberyard Mold in New Construction and How “Green” is Your Cordless Phone.
- Peter Sierck presents a lecture at the Restoration Industry Association’s (RIA) Annual Conference in Palm Springs, California. The presentation is titled: Hidden Dangers - Bacteria & Viruses: Their Role in Indoor Health Issues.
2008
- ET&T becomes involved in numerous construction defect litigation cases for home owner associations (HOA) in high-end condominium units in San Diego, Los Angeles and Long Beach.
- Peter Sierck is retained and teaches the first applied microbial remediation technician (AMRT) class in Auckland, New Zealand.
- ET&T conducts silica dust exposure for worker health and safety compliance during construction of a large concrete drainage channel along the US/Mexican border.
2007
- Staff members become certified by the newly accredited third party organization, the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC). ACAC certifications are accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB). Staff members receive certification as certified Microbial Consultant, Certified Microbial Investigator, Certified Microbial Remediation Supervisor, and Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant.
- First of a series of radio frequency (RF) surveys at schools and colleges in Southern California.

2006
- Mr. Sierck elected to become IAQA Education Committee Member and Sub Committee Chair for the Microbial Investigation Track.
- CFI elects Peter Sierck to become its Director of Education to conduct training and education services.
2005
- ET&T is selected by Belford USA to investigate 24 water damaged Wal-Mart stores in Louisiana and Texas due to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
2004
- ET&T starts an 18-month mold remediation supervision project at a 21-story high-rise building in La Jolla, California.
- ET&T starts a series of EMF Management Plans for California school districts to address Department of Education set-back regulations.
- Peter Sierck starts teaching AMRT courses in Canada.
- Peter Sierck is asked by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) to write two chapters for the “Green Book”. The book is published in 2008 under the title Recognition, Evaluation and Control of Indoor Mold.
2003
- ET&T starts working with major banks to conduct due diligence building surveys for real estate transactions.
2002
- ET&T serves in numerous construction defect cases and has two full time microbiologists working the laboratory.
- ET&T laboratory staff becomes certified by the Pan American Aerobiology Certification Board as Certified Spore Analyst.
2001
- Peter Sierck is asked by the IICRC to participate in the development of a mold remediation standard for the restoration industry. Peter becomes the Structural Remediation Chapter Chair for the ANSI/IICRC S520 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold remediation.
2000
- ET&T establishes relationship with major residential builders and developers. Investigation on mold problems and EMF fields emitted from transmission power lines.
1999
- Peter Sierck receives a Special Recognition Award from the IICRC for his contribution to the publication of the 2nd edition of the S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Restoration.
- Peter Sierck and Connie Jenkins published the first peer reviewed study ever on changes of the fungal genera inside a wall cavity after flooding. Fungal Genera Identified from Flooded Wall cavities published in Bioaerosols, Fungi, and Mycotoxins.
1997
- ET&T starts participating in the Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing (EMPAT) program. The EMPAT program is a performance evaluation program for environmental microbiology laboratories and sponsored by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA).
- First in a series of moisture and mold investigations, remediation monitoring and verification at high-end, high-rise hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
1996
- ET&T conducts an indoor air quality survey at the National Republication Convention at the San Diego Convention Center. The investigation was requested due to air quality complaints from staff members. ET&T identified the cause and eliminated the problem.
- Peter Sierck obtains training as an AHERA certified asbestos inspector, contractor, supervisor and planer, and as lead risk assessor and inspector at UCSD.
1995
- The first in a number of environmental real estate surveys for major Hollywood celebrities in Beverly Hills.
1994
- Managed the first successful large-scale EMF shielding and mitigation project of a high-rise bank building in Phoenix to help the customer eliminate computer interference from an electrical utility vault and electrical conduits.
1993
- Connie Jenkins joins ET&T and establishes the company’s mold analysis laboratory.
- First involvement in an expert witness case. Building investigation and expert testimony conducted by Peter Sierck lead to the first significant mold litigation settlement (precedent Kirst case) in the amount of approximately $1,000,000.00.
1992
- Mr. Sierck is asked by the Institute for Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) to become a committee member to develop the IICRC S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Restoration. The first edition of the document is published in 1993.
1991
- Peter Sierck obtains training at UC San Diego on the subjects of Air Pollution Laws and Regulation, Air Pollution and Toxic Contaminants, and Introduction to the Measurement of Electromagnetic Fields at UC Berkeley.
1990
- The testing of numerous indoor air quality parameters indicates mold problems in buildings are frequently responsible for building-related heath problems. This conclusion leads to close relationships with water restoration methods and associations. The first post remediation mold testing was conducted in conjunction with Quick Dry Flood Services.
- Peter Sierck receives training at UC Berkeley on the subjects of Building Associated Illness and Sick Building Syndrome and Industrial Ventilation.
1989
- The first large commercial building mold survey conducted at the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico.
1986
- Peter Sierck founds Environmental Testing & Technology, Inc. to provide physicians with a testing and assessment service to evaluate the indoor environments for asthma and allergy patients. The first clients came from the San Diego and Los Angeles markets.
- Office operations are run at this time out of his Encinitas home.
